And Remember to Pray For Our Nation

I urge then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone - for kings and all those in authority. - 1 Timothy 2:1

As our nation was busy choosing the 44th President, my kids and I were learning about the first one. We were reading about the day George Washington was sworn in and I learned something new.

According to the book we were reading, the very first thing he did after taking oath, was to walk down the street to a church, get on his knees, and pray for God's help in leading the nation.

The challenges in our nation and world today are certainly not less than those that Washington faced, and so we will remember Paul's encouragement to pray for our leaders.

We are also reminded of the words from Psalm 146:

Do not put your trust in princes,
in mortal men,
who cannot save...

Blessed is he whose help
is the God of Jacob,

whose hope is in the Lord his God,
the Maker of heaven and earth,
the sea, and everything in them-

The Lord, who remains faithful forever.
