Care Package

Caleb helped me brave the Christmas rush at the post office to send a care package to his little brother in China. Included were toys, clothes, slippers, candy for his nannies, a toddler's photo album with pictures of all of us, and a disposable camera with requests for pictures of him with his friends and nannies.

Uncle Pete was here to help write out some Chinese lables for us, and then everything was sealed with a kiss and a prayer.

In putting the photo album together, our hope is that it not only prepares our son to meet us, but also that his nannies (who we hope are very attached to him after raising him for the first year of his life) would be blessed by seeing the family they are sending him off to.

As I was putting Chinese labels on all the pictures - mother, father, sister, brother, grandma, grandpa, cousin, etc. - I realize how many people are involved in the life of this once-abandoned child. The Psalmist says that "God sets the lonely in families" (68:6) and it amazes me how He has reached around the world and across cultures to create our family.
